Owner does not honor purchased certificates!.
We just moved to the area a few months ago and visited Sal's on Fresno St. with our children. We used a discount certificate from RestaurantdotCom both times. The food was good. On Mother's Day 2010, we decided to have our whole family from L.A. join us at Sal's using a $50 certificate towards the meal. Our group was 11 people and would have gone way over that no problem. The owner would not honor "the already purchased cert", and embarrased my wife and I in front of our family. We left immediately and don't plan to return. Buyer beware!!!

Terrible Experience.
I had always heard great stories about Sal's "authentic" Mexican cuisine and it's famous salsa. First of all, the salsa looked (dingy brown) and smelled weeks old. Secondly, when my food arrived I was extremely disappointed with its substandard presentation and overwhelming use of cheese and sauces to mask what I uncovered was food that was prepackaged, shipped over from the Selma location, and reheated on location.
Sal's is about as far from authentic Mexican cuisine as possible. And at almost $6.00 for a mediocre margarita ($5.00 for a bottle of beer), $2.00 for an additional dollop of sour cream, and an extra charge for store-bought tortillas (which should come standard at a MEXICAN restaurant) you can feel the size of your wallet decrease and your health risk increase.
While the service was friendly I felt it was only in an effort to make you forget that you were being ripped off and that better food and service was just minutes away.
Save your wallet and your digestive track the pain of being insulted by a "Valley Tradition" of "authentic Mexican cuisine" and take your business elsewhere.
