Fresno's best lunch spot!.
Shepherd's Inn continues the tradition of family style Basque lunch. The bell rings every day at 12:30 for an amazing lunch spread of soup, bread, wine, 2 salads, vegetable, beans, entree and side dish, and cheese for dessert.
All for nine dollars and interesting dining companions! I've been going there so long that I remember the menu: Monday spareribs, Tuesday lamb shanks, Wednesday roast pork, Thursday roast beef, Friday fried chicken, Saturday leg of lamb, and Sunday paella and shrimp. I eat Basque style from Bakersfield to Elko and Shepherd's Inn is at the top of my list. Have a traditional Picon Punch before your meal.
There used to be 40 people a day here, but the recession and a dwindling appreciation for family style dining has affected turnout. See you there (Wednesday is my favorite).
The best Basque restaurant in Fresno!. For my husbands 50th we decided to try The Shepherd's Inn. I called a week in advance & reserved the banquet room. They actually called as we were walking out the door to confirm the number of guests to expect! The service was great. Our waiter was Travis he was so nice and took the drink and dinner orders! He served everything "family style" without a pause. The drinks, water and bread were refilled without delay! And the food was abundant and delicious!! My husband, being Basque, loves lamb. He said the Lamb chops were the best he had ate in a very long time! Marrying in to a Basque family we have always ate at the "Basque hotel" to have group family dinners. The past few years the management/owners have been extremely rude going so far as to turn the lights off in the dining room after our pre-Christmas dinner while we were still sitting there visiting! We had two large celebrations this year and Margaret was extremely rude! You would think that she would be grateful that we still came back after the Christmas incident! The food has gotten less and less. So now, we will eat at the Shepherd's Inn, be treated right and enjoy the food and atmosphere! Also, you can travel to Shepherd's Inn by Amtrak as the depot is right across the street!
not what it used to be (at least on one recent night). Never before have I ordered the daily special -- and never before over 20 years under current name & its predecessor Santa Fe Restaurant have I been disappointed. But Monday night special spare ribs on this night overcooked to point of tasteless dryness, with overcoating of gelatinous bottled BBQ saurce. Recommendation: stick with the main menu. Actually, now that I remember (it was years ago), avoid the 'lamb steak' and order lamb chops at a bit higher price. Convenient to LaQuinta -- you can drink a lot of wine & walk home from there.

Basque is the Best. Awesome food and a lot of it! You won't go away hungry or unhappy! I recommend ordering your meal Basque style!
Awesome. The food was awesome. I ordered my dinner basque style and i was full already before the main entree even came out. The staff there was so curtious too. I highly recommend this place but make sure you go hungry, i mean it, i am 300 Ibs and love food and i got full before main entree.
