Editorial Review for Blackbeard's Family Fun Center – by Barbara E. Hernandez

The Experience
Situated among pond basins and barren airport land, Blackbeard's Family Fun Center is an oasis in the desert, beckoning suburban youngsters, preteens, and energetic grown-ups in search of entertainment that's flat-out fun.

The Best
The pirate-themed amusement park originally offered miniature golf, but eventually expanded in all directions, including carnival rides, batting cages and the Cap 'N' Kids area for small children.

The Rest
Bumper cars, paintball, and miniature racecars are only a few of the reasons Blackbeard's has been around Fresno for decades. There's a waterslide that beckons heat-soaked families and an elaborate arcade that attracts everyone from children just old enough to reach the controls to college students who take their video gaming very seriously.

My husband and I took our four children to Blackbeards a while ago and the kids loved it. There were plenty of activities and we found the price pretty reasonable. If you go, plan to bring closed-toe shoes and socks in addition to bathing suits. Many of the rides require socks and shoes. There are lockers on site but you're close enough to the car to store personal belongings there as well. I do agree in terms of customer service. They obviously hire young employees who are more than likely students. We also ran into a similar situation in which the young lady working the counter had to ask the shift manager before she could proceed with any kind of transaction. I'm not sure if she wasn't clear on the procedures or if things are a little bit disorganized. Either way, the kids had fun and that made us happy. We're planning a birthday party there next month!

Pros: parking, activities, waterslides, golf, arcade, food

Cons: customer service

I have been in a bad mood all day today because of my experiece at Blackbeards today. I took my 4 children there today at 9 AM. They were all very excited to go and so was I. I drove up and saw some workers by the entrance and asked them if they were open now or at 10 AM. They said 10 AM. So, me and the kids went to Winco and bought a couple groceries. We came back at 9:45 AM and decided to come early and wait by the door. We went in and and saw a bunch of kids on the rides already. So I went to the ticket door but it was locked. I went to one othe workers and asked her where to get tickets. She gave me a whithering look and said, "It's not 10:00 yet." I said, "Then why are all these kids here-oh, they must be here with a special reservation." She just continued to give me a whithering look and I said sorry and I sat down to wait on a bench with the kids untill 10 AM and she continued to look over at me with angry looks as if I had commited a vile sin for coming early. At 10 AM, I went back up to her and asked where I could buy my tokens. She went over to her supervisor and talked to her for a second. She came back and said, "Um, my supervisor said this part of the park won't be open until 11:00, but you can go to the other part and play miniature golf." I couldn't believe what I just heard!!! My kids are too young for miniature golf and it is way too expensive anyway. By this time the kids were crying and I told them "Thanks-for nothing!!!" I could hear them huff as I turned away with my crying kids. Not a good time--They have officially lost a my busines and I will pass along the word.
